šFeeling like I donāt fit in anywhere! Trying to find my place and Gods purposeā¤ļø
Updated: Sep 11
I love my life. I love my family. Iām grateful for everything Iāve built.
I just find myself standing at a crossroads, wondering what comes nextāand trying not to cry while I figure it out.
Maybe midlife isnāt about having all the answers. Maybe itās about being brave enough trust God to show you where you belong next. ā¤ļø
š»Iām trying to go back to work.
But I donāt just want a job.
I want flexibility.
I want some freedom.
I want to use my leadership skills.
I want to feel valued for the life experience Iāve gainedānot just the letters after my name.
āØAnd I need a job that fits into my familyās life, too.
That seems like it should be reasonable.
Yet somehow, it feels incredibly hard.
And hereās the frustrating part:
ā¤ļøI actually love the work Iām doing.ā¤ļø
I love caring for people. I love my patients. I love being a nurse. I love using the skills Iāve worked so hard to build.
The problem isnāt that I donāt want to work.
The 40 hours just are hard with this family.
šøAnd I donāt want to miss the things that matter to me at home just to prove that Iām willing to work full-time.
š”I have a family. I have kids who need me. I have places to be, people to support, and a life outside of my job.
šI want both.
I want to contribute.
I want to use my skills.
I want to keep growing.
And I want to be present for my family.
š§Why does that feel like such a difficult thing to find?
Sometimes it feels like every option requires me to give up something important.
šAnd lately, it has left me wondering if there is even a place for someone like meā¦other than home.
Today, I found myself in tears wondering if Iām missing something. šIāve prayed about this for a long time. I keep asking God to show me the path, and if Iām being completely honest, there are days when I wonder, āAre You even hearing me?ā
I know that probably isnāt the prettiest thing to admit.
But itās real.
šøSometimes faith looks like believing even when you donāt feel like youāre getting an answer.
Iām also struggling with something else.
Iām a newish nurse.
But I am not a new human.šāāļø
š©āāļøI may be newer to nursing as an RN, but I have decades of life experience, healthcare experience, leadership, caregiving, teaching, wellness, raising children, working with people, and simply learning how to navigate life.
A degree does not erase everything I knew before I earned it.
And being new in one profession doesnāt mean I have nothing to offer.
I know things.
I know how to connect with people.
I know how to care for people.
I know how to listen.
I know how to lead.
I know how to make people feel comfortable when they are scared or vulnerable.
And I know that patient care is about more than checking boxes.
I genuinely care about people.
āØThat matters.
But lately, Iāve wonderedā¦
Does anyone see that?
Have you ever felt like no one really sees what you bring to the table?
Like you donāt quite fit anywhere?
Too experienced for one position.
Too new for another.
Too much responsibility at home for full-time work.
Too independent for something that doesnāt give you any freedom.
And then you start wondering if maybe you should just stay home.
š„¹Maybe youāve had that thought too.
Maybe youāve wondered if there is actually a place for you in this next chapter of your life.
I donāt have a neat ending to this post because Iām still in the middle of it.
I donāt know exactly what God has planned for me.
And today, I donāt feel like I have all the answers.
But Iām trying to remember something:
Not knowing where you belong yet š¦doesnāt mean you donāt belong.
Maybe this season isnāt about forcing the door open.
Maybe itās about continuing to knock on the right ones.
ā¤ļøMaybe the experience I have spent years collecting isnāt wasted just because it doesnāt fit neatly into a job description.
Maybe there is something ahead that I canāt see yet.
So today, Iām going to let myself be disappointed.
Iām going to cry if I need to.
Iām going to prayāeven if my prayer is simply, āGod, please show me what Iām supposed to do.ā
And tomorrow, Iāll get back up and keep going.
Because I refuse to believe that at forty-something, my best contributions are behind me.
I actually think there is a lot more in me.
ā¤ļøAnd maybe there is a lot more in you, too.
If youāre in a season where you feel overlooked, stuck, too old, too young, too experienced, not experienced enough, or like you donāt fit anywhereā¦
Please donāt decide that you have no place.
You may simply not have found your place yet.
Keep going.
Keep praying.
Keep learning.
Keep showing up as yourself.
And remember: your worth was never determined by a job title.
Maybe weāre not lost.
Maybe weāre just being redirected.
And Iām going to hold onto that today. ā¤ļø
